5 TIPS TO WORK PRODUCTIVELY FROM HOME
AMSTERDAM | February 28, 2017
As being my own boss I am working from home, so I know how hard it can be to stay motivated. You can plan your own hours, have your own breaks and can stop working whenever you want. However, this is of course not the way. When you work from home, you want to stay productive and motivated. Therefor I share my 5 tips to work productively from home with you today!
WAKE UP AND GET DRESSED
I always wake up between 7:00 am and 8:00 am, not a minute later. If I want, I can lay in my bed until 11, but this isn’t the way to work productively from my home. See it like this: the earlier you wake up and start working, the earlier you can stop and have a free evening. One of the things that helps me in the morning is, besides coffee, my breakfast and to get dressed. I feel much more motivated and awake when I am sitting behind my laptop in my clothing, than when I work in my pyjamas.
ORGANIZE YOUR TIME
When I make myself a planning I work much more frequent. I know what to do and when to do it. If I don’t do that, I will do my laundry or do the dishes in between my work for example. If I know I have to do my emails in the morning, my SEO after that and prepare a post in the after noon, I have time after I finished work to do any other necessities or, even better, fun things in the evening such as working out, meeting friends or cooking.
SET A SPECIAL PLACE TO WORK
Create a place where you love to work and get inspired all the time. You can find my tips on creating the perfect working space here. Currently my working place is my dining table, but I should actually get a real desk instead. You work much better from a place you only work at. In this way you also keep work – life separate and will not mix the two.
Your work gets much more fun if you have something to look forward to, such as a break (I mean, a break means food. Everybody gets happy of food). Having a break gives your brains the perfect moment to refocus. Even a 5 min break can give your brains enough time to get some ‘fresh air’. Think about a coffebreak around 10:30 am, a lunchbreak around 12:00 pm and later on the day, around 4:00 pm, another coffee or a little walk outside.
GET OUT OF THE HOUSE
Like I just said, having a little walk outside the house can be a perfect way to activate your brains and get some new inspiration. When I worked behind my laptop all morning and my eyes get squared shaped, I love to get out. After a little walk around, or even a good workout, I always have twice the amount of energy to get back to work.
