When running a (fulltime) blog, there are always plenty things to do. Things that aren’t so much fun as creating content, but are as important to score high on the blogger list. As you guys may know, I blog fulltime. Blogging, vlogging, social media; it’s all I do. Besides that it is my dream job and I couldn’t wish for anything better, it also has this pressure of working constantly. I really have to leave my laptop and phone for what it is in the evenings, and try to use it as less as possible in the weekends. Tough job sometimes cause it’s so tempting to check your Instagram while answering your friends phone call, or peek into your mailbox while opening Netflix.
That’s the reason why I do the most ‘boring’, but oh so important and often forgotten things, during the working week. Today I would like to share 6 of these things with you that you should do once in a while for your blog to keep on improving and getting that high SEO score. Let me know what you already did and what you still have to do. Good luck!
1. CHECK YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS
This really is peanuts, so begin with this to come into the ‘boring-tasks-but-someone-gotta-do-it’ mood. Check all your social media links on your page and see if they still work. Maybe you changed your username of your Snapchat or deleted your Twitter account, which is still standing on your site like it’s active. Make sure all icons link to a new page and, most important, the correct page.
2. EDIT YOUR ‘ABOUT’ PAGE
Probably the most fun to do as you obviously love to create content, is editing your About page. This is the page where new visitors can find more about who you are and what you do, after they visited your blog for the first time, so make sure you leave a good impression and keep it up to date. Tell what you do; if you study/studied or not, what kind of job you have, where you come from etc. Make sure to return the next day, cause once you start you keep on changing it until you have the perfect story.
3. CREATE ENGAGEMENT
Having an engaged following is getting more and more important. Sometimes even more important that the number of followers you have. Cause honestly, what does your following count means if they’re not looking/liking you? Exactly. To create that engaged following, you have to interact with them which is, believe me, one of the most fun things. When your follower ask about what lipstick you’re wearing or what the brand is of that bag you’re carrying all the time, than respond! Create interaction so people see there is no robot behind the screen, but a real person.
4. VISIT OTHER BLOGS
This takes a lot of time, I know, but it is the most effective way of promoting your blog and latest content. Yes, I am talking about visiting other blogs and leave a comment. Support each other and take the time to see what the other did, maybe you even discover a new obsession or do you make new friends :-). As a blogger, you always want to grow, so it’s not weird to promote yourself. But be real. Comments such as ‘Nice!’ or ‘Good job!’, don’t work. Again, don’t be a robot but be a real person.
5. MAXIMIZE YOUR CONTENT
Of course your blog is noting without good content, so take your time to create! Set up campaigns and make special post about interesting subject. And it doen’t matter if you’re not inspired right away, because there are plenty things to do to get inspired and start creating. I actually made a full blogpost about it, which you can check here in case you’re interested. But one thing above all; be unique. Create something that engages (hey it’s here again) your readers with you to keep coming back. If a post seems not good enough, than don’t post it. Like I said last week, quality content over quantity.
6. START CALL TO ACTION
Coming to my last point, which is creating a call to action. Call to what..? Exactly. This is what I mean. Call to action means that you’re trying to get something out of what you do. In this post I want to hear your thoughts for example, but when I write a wishlist I of course want to inspire you guys with the latest musthaves. Keep triggering your readers and ask something back. In this way it’s not only more fun for your readers to read, but also for yourself because I am sure you will get a smile on your face once you’re reading all the (real) comments.
