While dancing around in a golden world I realised how grateful I am. How beautiful the world is, how good my work is going and how many great friends I have whom I met along the way. I often stand still to reflect my life, to see how things are going and what I should improve. One of them is my work-life balance and I know many people that struggle with this. It’s so hard to combine work or school (or even both) with your social life. We live in a culture where we don’t want to miss anything, but we want to give the important things full focus as well; and this is where it often goes wrong. This summer I struggled a lot with this. I wanted to go to every party with my friends, try out every restaurant, be up until late and wake up early to work again. When I was in Paris I came to the realisation that I was exhausted. Exhausted of this lifestyle, so time for a change.
Since last month I am trying to find my balance back again. To still enjoy the precious moments with my friends, but without sleepless nights in the middle of the week, so I can still have a productive working day which I plan in advance, and that’s where it all start. I am not a natural talent in planning I have to admit, but at least I try to make one every beginning of the week. I check the things I have to do and see how I can fit it all in. This is one of the ways to keep my balance.
Another thing that I have to admit, is that I often don’t live by the planning I made. New things get in between and eventually I end up doing something totally different. If this happens it is important to accept it. If you accept it, it’s easier to get back to it. To find that balance again. You shouldn’t postpone things, but if it don’t happen right away it’s okay, just don’t be too hard on yourself. The last tip I can give you if to try to combine things. I often take a friend with me to an event for example. It’s fun to go together and you have enough time to catch up. Or plan a day when you can be all together. On Wednesday for example, I have a cooking club with my friends were one of us is inviting the rest to join for dinner. Enough time to catch up here! So if you keep reminding the keywords planning and combining, you are half way to a balanced life.
