Mindless shopping, it can be a real therapy and make your ‘bad mood’ a little better. However, it also costs money which often isn’t worth it. There are many girls who dream of a designer handbag or a pair of designer shoes that they can’t afford. They often forget that, if they stop mindless shopping at H&M, Primark and Zara, they might buy their dream item faster than they think. In this post we are sharing a few tips on how to stop mindless shopping!

1. MAKE A WISHLIST IN YOUR NOTES

One of the things that helps you think twice before you buy something new, is making a wishlist in your Notes on your phone. You can update it easily and always check it before you buy something new. Ask yourself the question ‘is it on my wishlist?’ If not, then ask yourself if you really, really need it or if you will put it on your wishlist if you would have seen it before. In case your answer is ‘No’ to both, you shouldn’t buy it.

2. THINK TWICE

Sometimes leaving the store without buying that new item and sleep one more night about it can help. Don’t be afraid that the item will sell out immediately. If it is meant to be, it will be there when you come back.

3. SOMETHING IN, SOMETHING OUT

The problem with us is that we keep spending and getting new stuff while we actually have more then enough. Try to implement the rule; something in, something out. In case you want to shop something new, you have to sell something first. There are hundreds of ways to sell your clothing; in second hand stores, markets and online. Use of these ways and earn something extra, make some space in your closet and then you can treat yourself.

4. CLOTHING SWITCH

If you have many girlfriends with the same problem, than organize a clothing switch party. Go through each others clothing to see what you would like to wear, in exchange for something they would like to wear. It is basically ‘free’ shopping and of course a lot of fun!

5. AVOID SAD/LONELY MOMENTS

If we are sad, feel lonely, are having our period or whatever kind of reason that we feel like we need to cheer up, than avoid shopping. Most of the time you will do useless buys when you’re not in the mood. Go do something else. Work-out, have a walk, watch Love Actually for the hundredth time and make sure you hit the stores again when you think clear.

6. WAIT FOR SALE

Okay, sale period is just over, but if you know it is close than wait with buying something new. Like we said, if it is meant to be the item you want will still be there when sale starts. When it’s not, than it just wasn’t worth it.

7. MAKE YOURSELF A GOAL

    I also agree with you on the tips for stopping the mindless shopping. Not shopping when feeling down or sad and making a list of things which you really need vs. the ones you “just want” helps me keep on track too.
